Print and doodle flowers

I started by glueing some printed tissue paper that I just received in the mail.

On top I sprayed 3 Dylusions Ink spray colors: Pure Sunshine, Squeezed Orange and Dirty Martini.

To fill the background a bit more I decided to add some Vibrant Turquoise before I added a face in between the printed tissue paper. This time in profile. (not my strongest angle!)

The face is outlined with a ZIG Cocoiro Letterpen.  a great pen to get some line variation.

I added some color in her face with Acrylic paints (overdid it with the blush :)

To preserve the nice ink blending and texture I didn't want to color the hair, but it was a bit plain so I decided to fill it in with doodled flowers and a bow.

As a finishing touch I added stripes over the print and a loopy border in between.
Thanks for reading about my MHmaking,

'80s Neon

This page started with some pink and orange acrylic paint smudges. Paint that was left over from the flowers of the "Sniffing Giraf".

On top of the smudges I did a watered down purple acrylic wash. Afterwards I stamped some flowers with Majestic violet and Plum Archival ink from Ranger. The flower stamps came in sets with Faber-Castell gelatos.

The orange and pink smudges gave me '80s vibe, so I drew a girl with a high ponytail and neon green triangle earrings. I colored her with Polychromos colored pencils.

I finished the rest of the page off with triangles painted with Fluorescent Green High Flow Acrylic Golden paint.

All this to create another MHmaking:

stay tuned for more!

Rainy Days!

The last couple of days it's been upwards of 30C but 2 weeks ago it rained for days on end.

After finishing the giraffes background I had some blue and green acrylic paint left over.
I just streaked it on an empty page and when it was done I immediately saw rain. Probably because I saw it outside my windows they days before.

Unfortunately I forgot to make a picture of the empty background.

But I did take this satisfying picture:

I found new storage for my long neglected Faber Castell Gelatos. They fit perfectly in my Acrylic Muji drawer. One doesn't fit, but it's a double color. So I store it with other spare craft tools.

Since I had the Gelatos near me I decided to use them to make big umbrella's.

I added some black silhouettes and decorated the inside of the umbrella's with a white gel pen.

To finish the page off I added some Glossy accents raindrops.

A simple but colorful page.

Sniffing Giraffe

Reference image
Most of the times my Mixed Media pages start with random color on a page, but this one was a bit more planned from the beginning. It started when I stumbled upon a piece of my spotted tissue paper by Décopatch. Immediately I knew I wanted to incorporate it in a page with a giraffe. Last year I used a picture from Pinterest as a reference to make a stylised giraffe on a pin.

Since I really liked the pose, I decided to re-use that image. (I tried to find the original, but the Pinterest links to a 404 page and a Google image search didn't make me any wiser. )

First I sketched the giraffe's head and a place to put some flowers in my Dylusions Creative Art Journal (Large) so I would know where I could use the tissuepaper.

Because the spots on the paper are small, I decided to not use them as the spots for the giraffe but instead as background. And that's a good thing! As it turns out, giraffe's don't really have a lot of spots on their face.

The background got covered with blue and green acryl paint (Amsterdam). On top I sponged  translucent white through a stencil with a spot pattern to give it a little more interest and to enhance the spots that almost disappeared behind the blue and green.

I took my time trying to paint the giraffe as best as I could. I'm not a painter and acrylics dry so fast!  But I'm happy with the result.

The flowers were added with the use of stencils. Some blotched clouds fill in all the blue space and as a final touch I used some gold (finetec) on the rose and splatters.

Making this the end result:

Doesn't he/she look content?

Welcome!

Welcome to the first post of MH makings,

Whether you stumbled upon this blog, or maybe you came here after an instagram post you noticed. Or... maybe you know me personally. Thanks for taking the time to read this first post.

I'm a stay at home mum of a teenage daughter. Over the years I got some time on my hands and I really do not like spending it on cleaning. So I try to spend as much time as I can on making things. It started with some paper window decorations, face painting,  once in a while I would sew or crochet.

Since december 2012 I mostly make things on paper. It started with a visit to a small craft store: scrap and stamp in Rickenbach, Switzerland. I was looking for a travel storage for my face paints. They didn't have what I was looking for, but I did walk out with 5 Magnolia stamps an acrylic block and stamping ink. The stamps were Christmas themed and I had set my mind on making my own Christmas cards that year.

Looking back I would never sent these out, but back then I did :)
The images where directly stamped on cardstock and painted with my daughters watercolor paints.
the decorations I made with punches I already had laying around,
The Christmas cards got a bit better over the years learning to use Copic markers definitely helped.

In the mean time I started Zentangle, hand lettering, mixed media, I make an attempt at drawing and about anything 2D you can make on paper.

So what can you expect here?  Makings made by me, MH.

It will mostly be makings on paper, but once in a while it might contain other crafts like crochet,  pins I made, a painting or even the diamond painting that I'm slowly chipping away at.

I hope you enjoyed the read and that you will come back for more MH makings.
