Float

Before I started this page it already had some green ink sprayed on it. The cool colors that were already on the page made me use it as a base for a floating girl.

First I decided where I wanted the floating face so that I could keep that part more or less free of acrylic paint. It makes it easier to color in the skin, especially since I hadn't decided what medium I would use. I did know that I would add a waterlily to the left of the page and that I would draw it on separate paper and collage it on top of the background.

So to make the water I used Acrylic paint in different shades of blue and streaked it in a circle around the face.

I decided to color in the face with Tombow markers. The flower and leaves were colored with copic markers and some details were added with Faber Castell Polychromos, cut out and glued down with Modge Podge.

I messed up the edges with some black paint on a fan brush (another leftover from another page, I really should stop trying to use every last bit of paint anywhere) I made some inward feathering. But after the page was finished I didn't like it, it didn't fit the rest of the page so I tried to wipe it off and used distress ink in the color Black Soot and a blending brush to darken the side edges.

Pierrot Girl

After having lunch in a small café in Zürich I was brainstorming of what kind of Images I would like to make an art journal page with scrolling though Pinterest I saw an Image and I wrote down: "A ballet clown". Weeks later I checked my list and saw: ballet Clown and frowned, wait a minute what I meant was a Pierrot! As a kid I had a couple of Pierrot dolls with ceramic heads. I made this one a bit grungier.

As most of my pages there was already some color on this one. In this case pink, I added some more pink acrylic paint over a floral swirly stencil. I muted it down by using a brayer with titanium white over it. I drew in diamonds and used paper edges to help me paint them blue. I used the same swirly flower stencil to add some darker blue followed again with titanium white with a brayer.  It gives it a bit of a grungy look.

After I colored the pierrot with Tombow makers I decided to add some purple acrylic though a Tim Holtz diamond stencil.

I shaded the big diamonds with blue and pink Inktense pencils that I blended out with a baby wipe.

The black circles on the left are made with black modeling paste with sand texture from Søstrene Grenes. Søstrene Grenes is not really a craft or art brand, but I do like this modeling paste that I found there. I also bought some brushes, but haven't used them yet.

To finish everything off I added a smokey border with Distress ink Black sooth and a blending brush.

Mushies

The previous page in my mixed media journal, page 26 Flower face, was loosely inspired by Alice in Wonderland, this page however is heavily inspired by the movie.

This page started, unlike most of the pages I start, completely empty. Most of the time there is some color on the pages from leftover paints. But this time I used Distress inks and a blending Brush to get a bit of a blue/purple gradient from darker on the edges to lighter in the center. Looking at the picture now I see that it's really not that well blended but I did blend it a little more after I took this picture with Ranger Archival Cobalt to get even darker edges. On top of the gradient I used Tombow markers to draw some tree silhouettes and something that looks like Fern sprouts.

I then drew some mushroom on markerpaper and colored them with Copic sketch markers.

I cut them out and made a little blue caterpillar (Absolem) to go on top of one of them.

I also drew a bunny walking away in the middel of the two pages. He is colored with Faber Castell Polychromos. Finally I glues everything down and made some smoke around Absolem.

Enjoy the close-ups!

I really want to make a page inspired by the Mad Hatter, so be on the lookout for that one, but I'll probably make something else first.

Lastpage Clown

The very last page of my Large Dylusions Creative Journal! Now, I need to decide what to do with the  cover.   As mentioned in a previous ...
